July 2010 Trip to Seward

Yesterday we took a road trip to Seward. Even though it was overcast, we had a great day. We stopped at a campsite beach and throw rocks in the water, explored at the Sea life Center, and hiked (.5 miles there and back) to Exit Glacier. It was a long day, but we had a great time. The hike to the glacier was beautiful. The Glacier "breathed" cool air on us when we got to it, which felt good, even with the temperature being 53. The mosquitoes were swarming our heads by the glacier, but once we got back in the woods, they left us alone. Words are insufficient in describing the awesome works of our creator.

Today is overcast, so it's really chilly. It was that way yesterday, but by lunch the sun made an appearance and it warmed up. Keeping the kids entertained inside can be a challenge without their toys. I did pick up a few things at yard sales, but that only lasts for so long. McDonald's Happy Meal toys (found at yard sale for free) just don't hold their attention for to long. They got to pick out a lego airplane and some action figures and combined with Hunter and Simon's imagination, they were busy playing with that for a while. A neighbor gave us a little kitchen for Olivia, so the girls are having fun with that. Oh, I did find 3 Care Bears and a Cabbage Patch doll for $.50 each. They are practically new. I wish I had kept my Care Bears from when I was a kid. They are making quite the come back. Have you seen the Rainbow Brite doll? Not what she once was.

Paul wants to go to a local second hand store because they have boots on sale. A lot of places have been advertising HIP BOOTS on sale. They are not describing the fashion, the boots really go up to your hips. You really can't dress wrong for the season here. You see people wearing winter boats with a sun dress or fleece jackets with shorts. I get it though. The 20 - 30 degree temperature change does make you dress for comfort not style. You won't get strange looks from people for your wardrobe choice. Everyone has been so friendly here.
